Repair and Restoration Gallery
A collection of photo essays and stories about specific
repairs and restorations.
- 1952 Martin 0-15:
This little fellow showed a long history of questionable repair work done
to keep it running. The worst offence was the addition of a tailpiece
by some well meaning soul to avoid re-setting the neck.
- 1933 Gibson L-00:
A great sounding, great playing L-00 which I was
pleased to bring it back to health.
- Broken Twelve String
Neck: A stage accident left this well loved
guitar "under the bed" for some twenty years.
- 1937 Martin 000-28:
A very rare and expensive sunburst 000 which I've had the
privilege to restore. Unfortunately, the bridge was
attacked by some amateur... It's proving itself before
the re-fret and final completion.
- 1923 Martin 0-21:
A real beauty that took a very harsh blow to the lower bout.
There were thirteen cracks in the top alone. It's the
one we all dream
of - it was bought at a garage sale for
five dollars a couple of years ago. It's not quite
done, but is at home being played for a while to allow it
stabilize and expose any other troubles before completion.
- Welcome to Calgary:
I received a call from a distraught mandolin player a few
years ago about a week or so after he moved here from
Missouri. "My mandolin is coming apart" Welcome
to Calgary.
