About the Business

Chinook Guitars was established in 2003 with the focus on repairing
and restoring stringed instruments.  My early work caught the attention of
well-known luthier Judy Threet, who graciously guided me through
the construction of my first guitars.

As the shop grew, I was able to start stocking items of particular interest
to guitarists while maintaining the focus on hand-built guitars,
vintage restorations, and custom inlay work.  In this little shop, the welfare
of the instruments always comes first.  It is this niche market
that has allowed me to move the shop into “The Pass”.

Working from home until the building is restored, it’s my intention
the shop will evolve to meet the needs of the community.  I’m currently
stocking the basics such as strings, cables, tuners and the like, and can bring in many items that can be found in a large music store on request.  In the future, I plan to start holding live music events, regular jams and perhaps lessons.

For now, the shop is closed Sunday and Monday and "open" Thursdays
from 2:00 until 6:00 and Saturdays from 10:00 until 4:00.  Outside of these hours,
I'm likely around and can help you out, but I would appreciate a call if you want to stop by so I can make some time for you as I may be knee-deep in a vintage guitar.

This is a wondrous place with some really great people; I could not
be more excited about making sweet music in the valley.

Enjoy the site and thanks for your interest.

Be well,
Kevin

Calgary and Lethbridge

While it's always best if we can meet at my bench, I do make it into each town once a month or so, often to pick up supplies and swap instruments with people.  As such, I have a couple of very safe places, (humidity!) where we can meet or instruments can be dropped off.  From there, I've found e-mail a great way to communicate with each other during the process.

  • About the Move:
I'm doing the same things, just at a  more manageable pace with a bit more peace.  The "Pass" is a little over two hours from Calgary and a little over an hour from Lethbridge so don't be shy about a visit.  There will be room for overnight stays to accommodate friends and customers for repair, restoration and building consultations, and for just plain fun.  I miss many of my old customers and friends so I hope to see ya soon.

Here's the new digs; three one-hundred-year-old buildings
on Historic Main Street in Coleman, Crowsnest Pass Alberta.

Site Stuff

  • The website is up and running.  Yeah!!!  There will be many changes, updates, edits and additions as time and energy allow.  Please be kind, I'm a much better luthier than webmaster.

  • Assaults on the English language will be corrected as found, ( I'm a poor editor at best).

  • I'm having a little trouble with picture quality; high resolution
pictures can be e-mailed on request if required.

  • Links to outline topics will appear as they are completed.

Local Live Music

Support your local musician and the folks that give us a place to play.
